Dear 2/1/11 Future Docs Applicant:
Thank you and good luck! Jo
Jo Peterson, Ph.D.
Director, Minnesota’s Future Doctors
I am pleased that you are considering applying for Minnesota’s Future Doctors. The online application is very simple but requires some preparation. You must submit your application through the actual Minnesota’s Future Doctors site, found on the University of Minnesota web site. Here are some steps to help you complete the application.
The official, online, web applications are due on February 1, 2011.
Use these Steps:
1.
Go to the actual application and print it out at least two weeks before it is due.
The official application for Minnesota’s Future Doctors is on the University of Minnesota web site.
You must complete the application using the University of Minnesota system.
The application is found at:
http://www.meded.umn.edu/futuredocs/
2.
Look at the ACTUAL application that you have printed out and make a rough draft of your responses.
3.
Get help from a trusted friend, instructor, or English professor with your essay question.
4.
Ask your college advisor to work with you on a course plan. You may be a freshman or a sophomore when you apply.
5.
Use a word counter on Microsoft Word or a similar program to determine how long your responses are. Your essay must be brief and to the point.
6.
Make certain to proof read and save all information on your hard drive or a flash/thumb drive or CD.
7.
When you have a full hour, go to the actual online application. Sit and focus.
8.
Cut and paste your longer answers into the online application form from your previously saved Word document.
9.
Plan ahead. Do not procrastinate and wait until the last day to upload your application.
If it is not submitted by January 29, 2011 - you have not given yourself enough time.
98% of the 2007, 2008 and 2009 candidates were selected from among those students who completed their applications EARLY. Individuals who sent their applications on the day they were due were not successful in securing a spot in the program because the information they provided was poorly written or inaccurate.
10.
You must have a reference. Your college advisor or professor must complete a brief web based form. Have them go to the site by January 15, 2011 to get familiar with the process.
You must request that your advisor be your reference by January 15, 2011. Do not ask a reference on the day that the information is due. See http://www.meded.umn.edu/futuredocs/for the advisor reference form.
11.
You will receive an email from Minnesota's Future Doctors after the ENTIRE application file has been received in the Minnesota’s Future Doctors office. This includes your application with transcript, and reference form. This email will arrive by midnight on February 15, 2011.
