Minnesota's Future Doctors:
An Amazing Journey
The mission of Minnesota’s Future Doctors Summer Program is to recruit and prepare highly qualified, minority, immigrant, rural, first generation college, and economically disadvantaged college FRESHMEN for medical school.
Minnesota's Future Doctors develops the skills of selected scholars over three years.
Minnesota's Future Doctors includes three PAID summer internships filled with academic enrichment, shadowing physicians of color, developing health disparities projects, and preparing for the MCAT exam and medical school application process.
Minnesota's Future Doctors is a collaboration between the University of Minnesota Medical School (Twin Cities and Duluth sites) and the Mayo Medical School. That's right...every medical school in Minnesota is a player in this project.

5 Reasons Why College Freshmen or Sophomores with three years left Should Apply to Minnesota's Future Doctors in February 2009:
1. You'll meet a whole new network of smart friends with similar life stories.
2. You'll get to tour world class medical organizations and play with high tech medical gadgets.
3. You'll start thinking like a doctor. You'll work on medical case studies and diagnose real-live medical issues.
4. You'll look like a doctor. You'll have a white coat, a badge, and opportunities to see patients. That's right! You will stand behind many doctors, meet patients, and discuss patient concerns with your doctor/mentors.
5. You'll talk to countless medical students and hear how they made it to medical school. You'll begin to understand MCAT, AMCAS, and med school pre-reqs.

Who Should Apply?
College freshmen, who are interested in becoming medical doctors, are encouraged to apply for this amazing experience. Participants will have paid fantastic internships during the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011.
The following students should apply:
• College freshmen, with a minimum 2.7 GPA and a strong interest in science.
• Highly motivated college freshmen who grew up in Minnesota.
• Freshmen from Minnesota who are first in their family to attend college.
• Minnesotans who are from economically challenged families.
• Minority freshmen including (but not limited to): Afrian Americans, American Indians, Latinos, Hmong, Somali, Ehtiopian, other recent African and Asian immigrants.
• College freshmen who speak and read English at the college level.

What is Minnesota's Future Doctors?
Minnesota’s Future Doctors is a three year program. A group 20 to 25 college freshmen are selected each year to participate in a six week summer program that starts after their freshmen year of college.
After completing the first summer program, these same individuals are asked to come back for a 2nd year summer program and a third year summer program. In all, selected students will spend 18 weeks at the University of Minnesota and Mayo Medical Schools.

June 20 to June 24, 2011 - No class, take the MCAT exam
June 27 to July 8, 2011 - AMCAS Class, send applicaton and Mock Interviews
