Why is the Minnesota's Future Doctors Program Important?

Amazing Diversity Demands Diverse Doctors
Minnesota is amazingly culturally diverse. American Indians, African Americans, Latinos, Asian and African immigrants provide vibrant energy.

Unfortunately, current doctors do not reflect the minority and rural core of Minnesota. Our state simply needs more doctors who reflect the diversity of Minnesota.

______

Why: A Little History Lesson

A plan to recruit and prepare highly talented, committed, and hardworking minority, immigrant, rural, and disadvantaged students for careers within the Minnesota medical community was conceived in 2005 by two medical students at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Gareth Forde and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

They looked around their classroom and realized their classmates did not reflect the diversity of Minnesota.

They proposed the program that has become Minnesota's Future Doctors.

The Director, Jo Peterson, started in November 2006. The first group of Future Docs completed their program in the summer of 2007.

To apply, you must use the official web site. The official web site for the Minnesota's Future Doctors program is found at:
